Founded in the late 70s by a group of model aircraft enthusiasts and local farmers of the area, South Hummocks Model Aero Club (SHMAC) formerly the YPMAC Yorke Peninsula Model Aeroclub) has had a long involvement with South Australian aeromodelling. Set at the base of the picturesque South Hummocks (appx 12 kms North from Port Wakefield), it provides the perfect backdrop for conduct of all types of model flying (gliding, aerobatics, free-flight, giant scale, control line and more). SHMAC continues this association by maintaining a first class venue and regularly hosts statewide flying events.
SHMAC is more than just aerosport though, it prides itself on being a family friendly club where respect and friendship are key values. Featuring exceptional camping facilities, many families often make the trip out of the city, just to get away and camp for the weekend under the stars – pets and all!
By joining SHMAC, you become an important member, part of a much wider modelling family of like minded members who look after each other, provide great social connections and are only too keen to help see you progress in the hobby by imparting their experience. And best of all no flight-line cues, no powerlines just free sky!
So contact us or come along on the second and fourth Sunday of the month, and see what you could be enjoying.
